You’re still with us? Plugging along and enjoying Lawrence Tam’s video series on how to break free from the shackles of the JOB and work from home? Excellent! You’re in for a treat because today we’re talking about that very thing, the feasibility of working from home. However, before I continue, let’s recap what we’ve learn so far…

In video 1, we discussed the idea of starting marketing anytime. That is, if you want to do it, it’s time to take action. Now. Not after your site looks pretty. Not after you have 400 Facebook followers. No, the time is now, so get to it.

In video 2, we discussed discovering your “why”. Why do you want to work from home? Why do you do anything? What’s your motivation and how do you achieve the goals you set forth? Well, video 2 explores this very notion.

In video 3, we dug deeper and asked, “What will your future be like 10 years from now?” Piggy backing on the “why” question, this one also helps us explore our motivations, goals, and action plan…which take us to video 4!

Does Working From Home Really Work?

Ok, so up until this point in this series, we’ve been exploring the why. Why do you want to work from home. What’s your motivation? Is this something for you? Now, now is where the fun begins…now we explore the how. How do you do it? How can you create an online income? What’s the best way to make money online? How can we break free??

Woah, there. Slow it down (just a bit).

I say this simply because there’s not one answer to that question. There are as many ways to make money online as there are people on this planet (ok, maybe America), so the how, which is seemingly simple, can be extreme overwhelming, especially to a novice of such endeavors.

Lawrence dives into how he started out on eBay. He would buy low and sell high with merchandise that was in demand. This, however, was limiting because you had to keep inventory, deal with shipping, buy without the guarantee that items would sell, and a slurry of other headaches that came with the territory. Then, he discovered that rather than being an online “shop” with physical stock, why not just promote other people’s products?

Hence, affiliate marketing came into play. As an affiliate marketer, you simply tell the world about others’ products. An example we can all relate to with this is a real estate agent. These guys didn’t build the house, nor do they even own it in many cases. Instead, they promote it on behalf of the builders and receive a commission for their efforts. Apply this to the internet, where your market is now global as is your possibility of products to promote.

Now, the next question raised is how do I tell others about the products I’m promoting?

Answer: Blogging.

Blogging at one time was considered “less than” in the eyes of academia because anyone could essentially write whatever they wanted about any topic. However, as the internet has grown, so has this view of bloggers. Many of the most reputable sources out there are now found online, and bloggers are at that forefront providing current and accurate information to the masses.

Ok, you ask, so how do we connect the two? How can blogging about affiliate products make me money? And on that note, I will pause, for in video 6 of 10 – Being a Salesperson vs. A Solutions Provider, we dive more into that.

In this video, we discuss the future. In the future, there will hoverboards and self lacing Nikes, according to Back to the Future II. Actually, Nike is working on a patent for those self lacing sneaks. They may actually be a reality by 2015, the year portrayed in the movie!

Ok, off topic. Apologies.

So, looking into the future 10 years from today, where do you see yourself? Do you see yourself waking up when you want, enjoying coffee, as you help your kids get ready for 5th or 6th grade? How about packing up as you check out of your hotel after having a blast on the Vegas strip? Or do you picture yourself getting up at 5am to start your 2 hour commute to a job you can’t stand? Shaving on the way as you chug down another cup of instant coffee? Does that sound more appealing?

The outcomes from any one of these scenarios is entirely up to you. Starting today, you can make the decision to plot your path to 1 year from now, 5, 10, 20 years into the future. Despite what we’ve been taught, you are the maker of your own destiny (even if that’s your predetermined path, lol). Tam gets that. He understands the the movie that is our life is one of our own production. You’re the director, cinematographer, and producer. You are your own promotion team and educator. You can do anything.

So, let’s ask, what does your future 10 years from now look like?

Lawrence Tam’s 10 Video Series Review: Video 2 – Knowing Your “Why”

As your recall, I’ve been fortunate enough to be messaging back and forth with LT on Facebook, and he challenged me to go through his video series, comment on them, and report back on an action plan to move forward on my journey to make money online. I decided to blog my journey, mainly for blogging practice.

Video 2 of 10 – Knowing Your “Why”

In Lawrence Tam’s second video in his video marketing series (review it here), he explores our “why”, our drive, our motivating factor to do what we do. “What do you want out of life?” he poses. “And how do you get to that which you want?” In his case, his why was something that we all want: to be happy. It sounds cheesy and over simplified, but he, like many of us, wanted a house, kids, stability without having to working 10-12 hours a day to make barely enough to get by, let alone provide for his children’s college tuition.

Who else can relate to this?

Are we setting off any bells here?

He furthers the conversation by stating that once we establish our “why”, we need to figure out how to accomplish our goals to make us happy. This again goes back to mindset. If you establish what you want to do and why you do it, then you just need to remained focused on that while you create steps to get to those goals.

What’s my why?

Good question. It’s pretty close to Tam’s why. I want to be happy. I want to be a stay at home dad alongside my stay at home wife and I want to have the freedom to travel when we please, live by my rules, create my own destiny. If I want to devote some time to a project, or help a friend with their why, I don’t want to have to worry about checking in or clocking in or sitting at a desk for x amount of hours. The opportunity to live outside of those constraints is possible. It is. Others are doing it. Look at Tam! He’s living the life he wants because he took action and committed to believing in himself. And you know what, that’s powerful. That’s a why we all need to reach for.

Lawrence Tam’s 10 Video Series Review: Video 1 – Start Marketing Any Time

I have been fortunate enough to come into contact with a pretty awesome guy named Lawrence Tam, who has (literally) made millions via working online.

There are others out there who could definitely teach you the tricks of the trade to truly succeed online, but few have I found that will actually respond to your Facebook messages, let alone challenge you to do things. As such, per a recent conversation with LT, he suggested that on my journey to create a legacy for myself online, I should start by going through his video series and comment on each of them.

There are 10 videos in his series on marketing (find them here for free!).

Video 1 of 10 is entitled Start Marketing Any Time

This video is short and very straight forward. It’s low budget, simple, and doesn’t try to pull you in with fancy cars, beaches, mansions, or any other luxe BS. If you don’t believe me, check out this screen shot:

I just find it hilarious because he is showing us something very powerful here. In fact, he mentions it in his video. He says that you can do this (make money online) at home, hair crazy, in your t shirt, in front of a webcam, at 2 in the afternoon or 2 in the morning, living how you want.

He’s telling us that you are the master of your own destiny and you are awesome. By simply putting yourself out here like this, it tells us that no matter what you look like and no matter what walk of life you come from, it is possible to create an income for yourself. As I mentioned, the video is short, an introduction really, of what awesome information is to come.
